Encompassing a vast expanse of 646,000 hectares, Alpine National Park is not only one of Victoria's most untamed and rugged destinations, but it is also the largest of its kind in the state. The Victorian Alps boast some of Australia's loftiest and most imposing peaks, which, although mostly comprised of large, rolling hills, entail significant elevation gains when scaling from the valleys to the ridgetops. Once atop the highlands, visitors to Alpine National Park will discover vast expanses of snow plains, tablelands, and open alpine meadows. Notably, the Bogong area of the park is home to 11 of Victoria's 12 highest peaks, including Mt Bogong, often dubbed "The Brooding Giant," which stands at 1986m and serves as a prime example of a high ridge rather than a mountain summit.
